WASHINGTON (AP) - Alex Rodriguez has the chance to enjoy a rare sensation this season - a day off not related to an injury.
The New York Yankees' third baseman wasn't in manager Joe Girardi's starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Washington Nationals. According to Girardi, it was "just a day off."
A-Rod had missed only one previous game this season. For the first time in several years, he's been healthy.
Said Rodriguez: "I'm giddy when I get up in the morning. I'm giddy. It's nice to wake up and make it about baseball."
Rodriguez, who turns 37 next month, has been on the disabled list every year since 2008. Not this year. Not yet, anyway.
Rodriguez needs one RBI to pass Jimmie Foxx for sixth place on the career list.
